Redox Flow Batteries: A Glance at Safety and Regulation Issues

Redox flow batteries (RFB) are considered one of the most promising electrochemical energy storage technologies for stationary applications, especially long duration services. RFBs converters that use flowing media as or with active materials, where reactions can be reversed. Knowledge technical standards and other regulations lay foundations successful safe commercialization products through uniform instructions generally applicable rules. A small number papers on safety regulatory issues reported in literature, mainly two reasons. First, because this technology is safe; second, publications have been limited to short-term characterization studies materials chemistry. This paper aims help fill gap, providing researchers students introductory knowledge aspects RFBs, from an electrical hydraulic point view. The reader referred specific deeper analyses.
